HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our COLE baby!
(who will give up that spot in a couple days)
Here's some of the things we love about Cole:
- Cole finds cockroaches with the rest of the kids these days. He runs for a shoe and yells, "cock-row" and tries to smack it. He'll actually hit the dead ones and the less lively ones. Then he says, "Ew... nas-ee" (nasty). Ha!
- When we ask for animal sounds, he whispers. I guess he likes quiet animals.
- He loves to point out things he finds and does it with gusto. One of his favorite things to find: airplanes!
He says "A-plane. See it? ri there. see it?"
- He's now a great talker. He repeats about anything we say. It certainly doesn't sound exactly the same, but he gives it a good try. He's very polite: "Tank you, momma (or dada or Sus-ee [Lucy], or Leese [Elise])".
- He loves to stand on the stool and watch me make dinner (and he's a good snitcher too!). When I'm done, he'll walk to the balcony and call, "Dinna hime!" really loud. :)
- He likes to sit on the potty. Occasionally, he's successful. Maybe we'll start with that in a couple months. He brings me the diaper and wipes and says, "I stee-ee". The also plugs my nose during the diaper change and says "P.U!"
- He has a hilarious head tilt happy dance that he does. A lot of times its at the dinner table. This is a random dinner video and unfortunately doesn't include the happy dance, but it does show him trying to show off to get attention. And how he says "Cheese!" when I break out the camera.
- Cole is really good at stealing the other kids' food off their plates when they aren't paying attention. If they do notice, it becomes a war!
- He definitely knows how to yell and stomp his feet when he doesn't get his way!
- Cole is still a daddy's boy! He runs to Geo when he comes home from work and jumps into his arms. He also says, "Up! Up!" (wants a big throw). He loves to start at the end of the hall and run full-board at Geo and try to tackle him. After our evening family prayer, he immediately jumps on Geo's back and says "Back! back!" (wants a piggy back to his room to go to bed).
- Favorite play things: definitely balls (has a good arm!), toy cars and airplanes (makes cute little sounds as
they fly. He'll also make airplane sounds when he feeds himself occasionally), and build great towers with magna-tiles. He loves to do whatever the big kids do. He also loves us to read him books.
- He empties Austin's drawers on a daily basis. *sigh*
- He's caught on the to phrase, "ta-da!"
- Cole LOVES the water! When it rains, he runs outside and hold buckets under the rain gutters and dumps. He certainly doesn't mind being sopping wet!
- He has a special place in the heart of some of our church members. The Mataele family are some of his favorite people. The bishop said, "we love all your children, but that Cole is extra special." I think it's because he's a local boy. :)

We celebrated Elise and Cole's birthdays together on Friday, the 24th. We were happy to have the missionaries and the Mataele's join us for cake and ice cream. The cake was banana sheet cake (yum)! We let the kids decorate it themselves. I think it kind of stressed Geo with the amount of sprinkles they dumped, but there were enough pieces that weren't completely covered with extra sugar to go around. :)

The following day (Cole's actual birthday was really low-key. I played the ukulele, Austin sang and Lucy danced a version of Happy Birthday.

Geo and I like to go on a little date right before baby arrives. On Saturday, we decided to go to Outback Steakhouse for dinner (with the lava flow - YUMMY!) and then watch our friend Marlise in an opera performance. It was kind of a review of a few different operas and we wished we'd have read up on a few so we knew what was going on. But the talent was great! Anyway, during the show, I started having pretty regular contractions about 12 minutes apart. They weren't all painful, but some were taking my breath away. I wasn't sure whether we were going to the hospital until about 1am. Everything stopped all together.
