This little guy sure had us fooled!  All of us were sure this baby was a girl.  In the past, I've had a "gut feel" of what the baby was (and have been right), but this time I thought the ultrasound would just confirm what we already knew.  ha!  That tricky little boy!  From what we can tell, it looks like he will be a healthy baby... always great news!  According to the ultrasound tech, he is a "mover"... should fit right in with the rest of the kids.  :)

Since we were all so sure we'd be buying pink, I thought it would be a good idea to have a little pancake party to tell the kids a new brother was on the way.  I told the kids to stay upstairs and the color of dinner would tell them what the baby was.  I put out a blue tablecloth and blue paper plates.  Then I made blueberry pancakes, plus dyed them blue, plus blueberry syrup, plus blue sprinkles... and they were still pretty confused.  ha!

Once they got it, the reactions were a bit mixed.  :)

We've gone half/half with finding out gender of our kids before they were born and I think it was good we decided on finding out this one.  After the shock of the boy announcement :), my first thought was, "oh my.  What in the world are we going to name this child?"  I think we're going to need all 4 1/2 months to figure it out.

GIRL Power!!!

I wanted to make sure I posted one of my favorite activities of Christmas break.  Its been a while, but the girls still ask to repeat it.  We decided to have a "girls night" with the spa kit Aunt Natalie gave Lucy for Christmas (thank you!).  George (bless him) played with the boys until bedtime and then slept in the girls bed while we had our "sleepover" in our bedroom.  So much fun!

Occasionally, we'd need supplies from the kitchen to make our spa goodies and had to venture down to "boy land".  Of course, they gave us a hard time.  When we returned, they slipped a note under the bedroom door that said we were not to leave the bedroom again and the girls thought it was the funniest thing ever and threw notes back over the balcony.  Geo is sure a good sport.

MLK Weekend

Saturday

After playing the "pick up 10 things and you get one M&M game" to clean the house, we headed off to the Bishop Museum.  They have a "giant BUGS" exhibit that runs until March, so we thought we'd swing by.

I think Geo and I were more impressed than the kids were, but whatever.  We moved on to the Volcano building (which Elise now likes)

 Last stop on our way out was a exhibit by a Hawaiian designer, Alfred Shaheen.  He is given credit for the Aloha wear becoming a trend to stay.  The exhibit has been there a couple months, but we've never really wanted to stop.  And it was a great surprise.  The kids thought it was lots of fun to vote for their favorite shirts and outfits.

Afterwards, we stopped for shave ice at Shimazu.  It has been somewhere we've wanted to stop for a long time (highly recommended by our friends), but (like a few local shops) doesn't really keep to their hours.  This time, we hit it at the right time.  It was fabulous and now I really need to go back asap.  The ice is so soft!  And check out the size of that thing!  Keep in mind, I ordered the middle size (large).  The next size up was the "Larry" and it was double the price.  The thing must be enormous.

We spent Monday with our friends at Ko'olina beach since it was rainy on our side of the island.  It was really crowded, but once we found parking, the afternoon was so relaxing.

 We ended the day with linner at Chili's... bless our waitress.

Fab Five for Friday: Ice and Snow

~ONE~

 Part of Lucy's Christmas present included tickets to Wicked with mom and dad. She nearly knows the CD by heart and it was fun to have the story to connect it all.  As expected, it was fabulous!  (The middle picture is of the line to the bathroom during intermission... holy moley!  Plus they had 4 employees to direct everyone. Women.)

~THREE~

Elise has been making lots and lots of Valentines lately.  She proudly gave this one to me and told me to read it.  I did my best and then she knowingly nodded, "Yes.  I know Spanish."  :)  She said the same thing to George when he got home and he repeated the odd little phrase all night long (and laughed his head off every time).
 

~FOUR~

 We attended our friend Makela's birthday party on Thursday at the Ice Palace.  It was a big improvement from last year's attempt to ice skate!  A friend and I traded off tending our 18mo old's so Elise is skating with Makela's dad and Kimo here.  She'd release her grip from the bars often, but not for long.  No action shots of Austin but he was sure proud of himself (basically did the dead man hang while I pushed him around).

~ FIVE ~

 Lucy's school had a SNOW DAY today!  The kids had a ball and were so so excited.  It cracked me up to see all the boogie boards and floaties used as tubes with palm trees in the background.  The "twins" went on a couple runs down the hill and Cole stood at the top and screamed with delight as he watched all the kids go down.  FUN!
